We had this problem in our own agency and ended up building software to get out of it. A project that feels fine and loses money rarely has one cause: a contractor hour with no cost rate, a retainer invoice nobody sent, an approval that lived in an email reply.
So we built the system we needed. An hour with no cost rate is reported as uncosted, not as free. A client approval comes with a reason. A retainer invoices itself.
Not built yet, and said plainly: single sign-on, SOC 2 certification, a white-label client portal and Xero or Slack integrations. Check getretainr-os.com for what is live today.
